Taiwan has a fascinating history: After WWII, the Japanese Colony was returned to China, where the government of Chiang Kai Shek was fighting Mao and his communist rebels. After loosing the civil war, Chiang Kai Shek moved the government to Taipei. Since then, both the governments of China (officially People's Republic of China) and Taiwan (officially Republic of China) claim to rule over both countries. While in the 1950s Chiang Kai Shek's supporters were dreaming of reconquering China, today it's mostly China that wants to bring Taiwan under its control. Taipei's impressive monument, the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, is an interesting place to learn about the complicated history.

Venturos, designed by the same architect as the UFO-Shaped Futuros, faced a similar fate as their round brothers, and they can be found abandoned alongside the Futuros in Wanli.

The abandoned UFO village in Wanli undoubtedly is one of the most fascinating places to visit in Taiwan.

Earlier this week, I visited Yehliu Geopark, which is a convenient day trip from Taipei. The park features many amazing rock formations such as these! It also features an impressive view over the ocean at the end of the peninsula which you can spot in the background where the tower is.

A few days ago, I was in the centre of Taipei when I spotted this beautiful sky behind Taipei 101. The wide angle-lens I used on this photo makes the huge skyscraper look way smaller than it is: Taipei 101 used to be the highest building in the world and is still way taller than any other building in Taiwan.
