When I visited Tokyo two weeks ago, all accommodation in the city was either booked out or ridiculously expensive on Saturday night. This was a convenient excuse to stay in Kamakura, a coastal town south of Tokyo popular for its big buddha statue. While this famous statue is overrun with tourists, there are many beautiful places near Kamakura. We did some great hiking in the mountains all day and then descended to the coast where I captured this long-exposure.

Shibuya Crossing is certainly the world's most famous pedestrian crossing, some claim it is the most busiest as well. Typical for Japan, despite hundreds of pedestrians waiting to cross the road, there is no chaos and everyone is waiting patiently for the light to turn green to continue their journey through Shibuya, which turns into a popular nightlife district when people celebrate the end of their work week on Fridays.

Akihabara is Tokyo's nerd heaven filled with shops offering manga, anime, and video games, trading cards, collectibles and maid cafes.

It may be hard to believe when seeing photos of places like Ginkaku-Ji temple in Kyoto, but after three days in the historic capital of Japan, I was quite sick of visiting Japanese temples. The colourful fall foliage made these temples incredibly photogenic, but the more popular temples were haunted by hordes of tourists.

I visited Japan for 11 days during my exchange semester in Taiwan, so unfortunately I did not have that much time in this fascinating country. This is as close as I got to Mt. Fuji.
